If your perplexed about the inner working of Wikipedia and want to learn more, you might want to check out ‘How Wikipedia Works‘ from O’Reilly/Starch Press.
Whether you are simply interested in the process or your a power editor, this book has a little something for everyone. From the very basics to the most complex it’s an interesting read and a great resource material. the book includes how to:
- Start an article, edit, write, research and collaborate.
- Contribute to existing articles, editing and fact-checking.
- Search, browse and check the quality of an article.
Wikipedia is truly an internet phenom and a resource I use just about everyday. Understanding how it all comes together is fascinating. I haven’t made it all the way through the book yet (it’s ~500 pages) but it’s one of those books I will continue to read and keep around.
You can pick it up at www.oreilly.com/nostarch or grab a sample chapter Chapter 12: “Community and Communication” (PDF)
